The development
of pleasure activities inside the port areas near the city centre could
be a key point for the tourist appeal of Savona, one of the most important
sector for local economy, considering its importance for direct and
indirect occupational possibilities that such renovation could create.
Therefore, it is evident that the improvement of the territory as well
as its attractiveness must be oriented towards the market showing the
highest financial potentialities, provided that the utmost compatibility
level could be maintained, according to inhabitants expectations in
terms of liveability and socio-economic development.
In the last few years, the Port Authority along with the Municipality
of Savona have developed several projects individuating as a centre
of this transformation stretch of coast from Albissola to the Priamar
fortress.
Starting from East, the forthcoming works are:
the project of a new marina nearby the Margonara cape, directly connected
with Albissola Artists’ Promenade;
the total reconversion of the Miramare area, that will be dedicated
to pleasure boating and tourism.
The Calata delle Vele quay, with the new Maritime Station,
presently under completion; the upgrading of “Docks Quarters”,
thanks to the future demolition of the multi storey car park and the works
for the upgrading of “Scaletto d’alaggio” and Baglietto
Street areas;
the full renovation of the Vecchia Darsena waterfront (already finished);
the total reorganisation of old industrial areas for residential purposes;
the revival of the Priamar fortress with its impressive attractiveness
as an element to strengthen the tourist appeal of the city for cultural
events as well as for other business activities.
The first steps made toward the tourist renovation of this area have been
successful and this new meeting place has been adopted with enthusiasm
by visitors.
For the port of Savona, characterised by a strong link between his structure
and the city centre, the future is already on.
The Vecchia Darsena, set among the Brandale towers, the Priamar fortress
and the old Docks quarters have been fully revitalised and transformed
in a comfortable residential area for boating activities.
The sea seems to penetrate among the antique palaces, “scaletti”(slip
docks) and old quays have been completely renewed respecting their rich
and fascinating past.
This area is once again the heart of the city like a comfortable outdoor
living room rich of shows, events and exquisite gastronomy thanks to the
haunts that surround it and its wide squares.
While the waters reflected white sails and fascinating yachts together
with the witness of eight centuries of history, there is a great impatience
to see tomorrow’s Savona mirrored in the sea. As this site is the
ideal place to organise events with a large audience, this area hosted
shows, concerts and fashion parades that were welcomed with the highest
liking beyond all expectations.
This success incited the organisers to find out new solutions giving the
possibility to host often important events. Therefore, a platform has
been built with materials such as carbon, aluminium and wood. Is has been
installed in the area called “Scaletto d’alaggio” and
will enable the promoters to hold meetings and shows of the highest level.
With the same objective the “Tre eventi” association was created
to organise every year at least three events of national importance.
