Val Bormida

One river, many rivers
The term "Bormida" is not strictly correct, for there are many different river Bormidas. They flow together in Piedmont, but there are four of them in Liguria alone. The only example in and around Savona is the Bormida di Spigno, which winds its way among green wooded shores and burnished fields of mushrooms, ruined castles and traces of feudal and Napoleonic battle grounds.
A leafy oasis of cool, fresh air, a treasury of genuine cooking and wholesome countryside traditions where wild mushrooms, game, wine and truffles abound: truly a valley for all seasons.
Just north of the Cadibona Pass, ancient geographical boundary between the Alps and Apennines, the towns of Altare and Carcare welcome visitors from Savona into the Valley. And Altare's Art Nouveau style Villa Rosa will be home to the Museum of Glass and the Art of Glass Making, which traces the local industry from the 18th century to the present day. On display are works from the local school of glass engraving, historical documents and books charting more than 800 years of the history of glass.
